Description
Cumin Seed Essential Oil (Cuminum cyminum)
The pungent, sun-warmed spice seed.
Our cumin seed essential oil is steam-distilled from the dried, ripened seeds of Cuminum cyminum. It has a bold, pungent, spicy aroma with a slightly musky edge that evokes warmth and sun. A little goes a very long way, which makes it a striking accent in diffuser blends and natural perfumery.
Each bottle is made of glass to help protect the oil from light, and comes with a glass pipette dropper for controlled, drop-by-drop use. Choose the 10ml size to try it or the 30ml size for regular use.

Ways to enjoy it
- A warm, spicy accent in diffuser blends with bright citrus.
- A bold, exotic spice note for your own natural perfume blends.
- A single drop on a tissue for a brief, invigorating inhalation.
- A tiny touch of heat and depth in room blends.
How to use
- Diffuser: add 1 to 2 drops, blended with other oils such as Sweet Orange or Bergamot, in short sessions of about 30 minutes in a well-ventilated room.
- Inhalation: put 1 drop on a tissue and breathe in briefly. Keep the tissue away from your skin.
- On the skin: many people prefer not to use cumin seed on the skin at all. If you do, always dilute. Use no more than 1 drop in 15ml of a carrier oil such as sweet almond (about 0.3%). Never exceed 0.4%. Patch test first.
Important safety information
- Phototoxic. Do not expose skin treated with cumin seed to sunlight, sunbeds or UV for at least 12 hours, and never use it on skin that will be exposed.
- May cause an allergic skin reaction. Never apply undiluted. Avoid the face, sensitive skin and broken skin, and avoid contact with eyes.
- For external and aromatic use only. Do not swallow. The cumin you cook with is a different product.
- Keep out of reach of children. Do not use on or near the face of babies or young children.
- Essential oils can be harmful to pets, especially cats, so ventilate the room, let animals leave when diffusing and never apply the oil to them.
- Not for use in pregnancy. If you are breastfeeding or have a medical condition, speak to a healthcare professional before use.
- Essential oils are not medicines and are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any condition.

Frequently asked questions
Can I put cumin seed essential oil on my skin?
It is best avoided, and diffusion is the gentler choice. If you do use it, dilute to no more than 0.4% (about 1 drop per 15ml of carrier oil), patch test first and keep the skin out of sunlight and UV for 12 hours.
Is cumin seed oil phototoxic?
Yes. It can cause skin reactions in sunlight, which is why we advise avoiding sun and sunbeds for at least 12 hours on any skin it has touched. Diffusing it does not carry the same concern.
What does cumin seed blend well with?
Its spicy warmth is softened by Sweet Orange, Bergamot, Cedarwood, Black Pepper and Coriander Seed.
