Our basil essential oil is steam-distilled from the fragrant leaves of Ocimum basilicum and is sourced from Egypt. It has a crisp, herbal and slightly spicy aroma with a green, peppery freshness. It is loved for diffusing in the home office or study, and in natural perfumery as a top-to-middle note that lifts citrus and floral blends.

Each bottle is made of matte black glass to help protect the oil from light, and comes with a glass pipette dropper for controlled, drop-by-drop use. Choose the 10ml size to try it or the 30ml size for regular use.

How to use

• Diffuser: add 3 to 5 drops to an ultrasonic diffuser in a well-ventilated room, in sessions of 30 to 60 minutes.
• Inhalation: put 1 drop on a tissue and breathe in gently. Keep the tissue away from your skin.
• On the skin: always dilute. Mix 1 drop into 10ml of a carrier oil such as sweet almond (0.5%, about 1.5 drops per 15ml). Never exceed 0.5%. Patch test first.

Important safety information

• Skin use needs great care. Basil oil can contain methyl chavicol (estragole), so keep skin use to 0.5% or less (about 1.5 drops per 15ml of carrier oil). Patch test first and stop if irritation occurs.
• Avoid during pregnancy and while breastfeeding.
• May cause an allergic skin reaction. Never apply undiluted. Avoid contact with eyes.
• Do not use on or near the skin or face of babies and young children. Keep out of reach of children.
• Essential oils can be harmful to pets, especially cats. Ventilate the room, let animals leave freely when diffusing, and never apply the oil to them.
• For external and aromatic use only. Do not swallow.

Can I put basil essential oil on my skin?
Only with great care. Keep it to 0.5% or less (about 1.5 drops per 15ml of carrier oil), patch test first and avoid the face and broken skin. Stop using it if irritation occurs.

Can I use basil oil during pregnancy?
Basil oil is best avoided during pregnancy and while breastfeeding, because many basil oils contain methyl chavicol. Speak to a midwife or doctor before using any essential oil at these times.
