Bergamot Essential Oil (Citrus bergamia)

The Italian jewel of the citrus family.

Our bergamot essential oil is cold-pressed from the rind of the bergamot fruit and opens with a bright, sunny citrus lift before settling into soft floral and lightly spicy notes. It is loved for diffusing, for evening rituals and as a polished top note in natural perfumery, where it bridges sharp citrus and heavier florals.

Each bottle is made of matte black glass to help protect the oil from light, and comes with a glass pipette dropper for controlled, drop-by-drop use. Choose the 10ml size to try it or the 30ml size for regular use.

How to use

• Diffuser: add 4 to 6 drops to an ultrasonic diffuser in a well-ventilated room, in sessions of 30 to 60 minutes.
• Inhalation: put 1 drop on a tissue and breathe in gently. Keep the tissue away from your skin.
• On the skin (evening only): always dilute. Mix 1 drop into 15ml of a carrier oil such as jojoba (about 0.3%). Never exceed 0.4%. Patch test first.

Important safety information

• Phototoxic. Do not expose skin treated with bergamot to sunlight, sunbeds or UV for at least 24 hours.
• May cause an allergic skin reaction. Never apply undiluted. Avoid contact with eyes.
• For external and aromatic use only. Do not swallow.
• Keep out of reach of children. Citrus oils can be harmful to pets, especially cats, so ventilate the room and let animals leave when diffusing.
• If you are pregnant, breastfeeding or have a medical condition, speak to a healthcare professional before use.

Frequently asked questions

Can I put bergamot essential oil on my skin?
Only when diluted, in the evening, and with sun and UV avoided for 24 hours afterwards. Use no more than 0.4% (about 1 drop per 15ml of carrier oil) and patch test first.

Why is bergamot phototoxic?
Cold-pressed bergamot contains natural compounds called furanocoumarins, which react with UV light and can irritate or darken the skin. That is why the sun-avoidance advice matters.

What does bergamot blend well with?
It pairs beautifully with Frankincense, Geranium, Lavender and Cypress.
