Coriander Seed Essential Oil (Coriandrum sativum)

Our coriander seed essential oil is steam-distilled from the dried, crushed seeds of Coriandrum sativum, sourced from the fields of Russia and Bulgaria. Unlike the leafy cilantro, the seed offers a warm, sweet-spicy and slightly woody aroma with a gentle peppery undertone. In natural perfumery it is a versatile heart note, adding a sophisticated, spicy-floral bridge to blends.

Each bottle is made of matte black glass to help protect the oil from light, and comes with a gold-rimmed precision pipette for controlled, drop-by-drop use. Choose the 10ml size to try it or the 30ml size for regular use.

How to use

• Diffuser: add 3 to 5 drops to an ultrasonic diffuser in a well-ventilated room, in short sessions.
• Inhalation: put 1 drop on a tissue and breathe in gently. Keep the tissue away from your skin.
• On the skin: always dilute. Mix 3 drops into 15ml of a carrier oil such as sweet almond or argan (about 1%), or 2 drops into 10ml. Never exceed 1%. Patch test first.

Important safety information

• May cause an allergic skin reaction, particularly if the oil is old or oxidised. Never apply undiluted, use no more than 1% on the skin and patch test first. Avoid contact with eyes and broken skin.
• Keep the bottle tightly closed, cool and away from light.
• For external and aromatic use only. Do not swallow.
• Keep out of reach of children, and do not use on or near the face of babies or young children. Essential oils can be harmful to pets, particularly cats, so ventilate the room and let animals leave when diffusing.

Frequently asked questions

Can I put coriander seed essential oil on my skin?
Yes, when diluted. Keep it to 1% or less (about 3 drops per 15ml of carrier oil), patch test first, avoid the face and broken skin, and stop if irritation occurs. Store it well, as older oils are more likely to irritate.

Does coriander seed oil smell like fresh coriander?
Not really. Cilantro is the fresh leaf with a sharp herbal scent, while the oil is distilled from the dried seeds and smells warm, sweet and gently spicy with a woody edge.

What does coriander seed blend well with?
It blends well with Lemon, Bergamot, Ginger, Cardamom and Sandalwood.
