Our clove essential oil is steam-distilled from the unopened flower buds of Eugenia caryophyllata. Clove has long been treasured as a symbol of protection and resilience, and the oil has a powerful, spicy, woody aroma with a deep, balsamic sweetness. It is a commanding base note in natural perfumery and a little goes a very long way in the diffuser.

Each bottle is made of amber glass to help protect the oil from light, and comes with a glass pipette dropper for controlled, drop-by-drop use. Choose the 10ml size to try it or the 30ml size for regular use.

Ways to enjoy it

• A warm, spicy seasonal atmosphere in the diffuser, blended with sweet orange or cinnamon.
• A rich, spicy base note for your own natural perfume and room blends.
• A short burst of aroma to freshen a room that feels flat.
• A small amount in a warming body oil, very heavily diluted.

How to use

• Diffuser: add 1 to 2 drops only to an ultrasonic diffuser in a well-ventilated room, in short sessions. A little goes a long way.
• Inhalation: put 1 drop on a tissue and smell it from a comfortable distance. Keep the tissue away from your skin and face.
• On the skin: always dilute heavily. Mix 1 drop into 10ml of carrier oil (about 0.5%, or 3 drops per 30ml). Never exceed 0.5%. Patch test first and avoid the face.

Important safety information

• Strong skin irritant. May cause an allergic skin reaction. Never apply undiluted, keep skin use to 0.5% or less, and avoid the face, eyes, mouth and other mucous membranes.
• Do not use clove oil in the mouth or on the gums or teeth. If you have dental concerns, speak to a dentist.
• For external and aromatic use only. Do not swallow.
• Clove oil contains eugenol, which may affect blood clotting. If you take anticoagulant medication, have a bleeding disorder or have surgery planned, speak to a healthcare professional first.
• Not recommended for children under 2, and keep out of reach of children of all ages. Do not use on or near the face of babies or young children.
• Clove oil can be harmful to pets, especially cats, so ventilate the room, let animals leave when diffusing and never apply the oil to them.
• If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, have asthma, sensitive skin or any medical condition, speak to a healthcare professional before use.

Frequently asked questions

Can I put clove essential oil on my skin?
Only in very small amounts. Keep it to 0.5% or less (about 1 drop per 10ml of carrier oil), patch test first, and avoid the face, mouth and broken skin. Clove can irritate and sensitise skin.

Can I use clove oil on my teeth or gums?
No. Clove oil should not be used in the mouth or on the gums or teeth, and it should never be swallowed. For dental concerns, please see a dentist.

What does clove blend well with?
