Our litsea cubeba essential oil, also known as May Chang, is steam-distilled from the small pepper-like fruits of Litsea cubeba. It has a sparkling lemon-citrus aroma with sweet, fruity undertones, and is loved for fresh diffuser blends, room sprays, candles and as a lively top note in natural perfumery.

Each bottle is made of matte black glass to help protect the oil from light, and comes with a glass pipette dropper for controlled, drop-by-drop use. Choose the 10ml size to try it or the 30ml size for regular use.

How to use

• Diffuser: add 3 to 4 drops to an ultrasonic diffuser in a well-ventilated room, in short sessions.
• Inhalation: put 1 drop on a tissue and breathe in gently. Keep the tissue away from your skin.
• On the skin: always dilute. Mix no more than 2 drops into 15ml of a carrier oil such as jojoba (about 0.7%). Never exceed 0.8%. Patch test first.
• Room mist: add 6 drops to 100ml of distilled water with a tablespoon of witch hazel in a spray bottle (about 0.3%). Shake well and spray into the air, not onto skin, pets or fabrics you cannot test.

Important safety information

• Very high in citral, so it can sensitise skin. Use no more than 0.8% on the skin, never apply undiluted, and patch test first. Avoid the face, sensitive skin, broken skin and contact with eyes.
• Not for use in pregnancy. Please avoid litsea cubeba if you are pregnant, and speak to a healthcare professional about use while breastfeeding.
• For external and aromatic use only. Do not swallow.
• Keep out of reach of children. Do not use on or near the face of babies or young children.
• Strongly scented citrus-type oils can upset pets, especially cats, so ventilate the room, let animals leave when diffusing and never apply the oil to them.
