Description
Thyme Essential Oil (Thymus vulgaris ct. linalool)
A warm, green herbal oil of the Mediterranean hills.
Our thyme essential oil is steam-distilled from the flowering herb, sourced from dry Mediterranean hillsides. We select the linalool chemotype, which is the gentlest of the thyme types, with the herb’s characteristic warm, green, faintly sweet aroma and without the fierce, phenol-heavy bite of thymol thyme. Thyme has been burned as an aromatic herb since antiquity. In natural perfumery it is an assertive middle note, used sparingly to add a rugged, herbaceous depth. It is still a potent oil, so use a light hand.
Each bottle is made of amber glass to help protect the oil from light, and comes with a black-collared glass pipette for drop-by-drop use. Choose the 10ml size to try it or the 30ml size for regular use.

Ways to enjoy it
- A warm, herbal scent to diffuse sparingly through the cooler months.
- A rugged, green middle note for herbal and aromatic perfume accords.
- A fresh herbal touch for a room that feels stale or shared, diluted in water as a room spray.
- A robust seasonal blend with eucalyptus, rosemary or lavender.
How to use
- Diffuser: add 1 to 3 drops to an ultrasonic diffuser in a well-ventilated room, in short sessions of 30 minutes. Thyme is powerful, so use noticeably less than you would of a citrus or lavender oil.
- Inhalation: put 1 drop on a tissue and inhale briefly from a short distance. Keep the tissue away from your skin.
- On the skin: always dilute. Mix 3 drops into 15ml of a carrier oil such as sweet almond or grapeseed (about 1%), or 2 drops into 10ml. Never exceed 1% and never apply neat. Patch test first.
Important safety information
- A potent oil. May cause skin irritation and an allergic skin reaction. Never apply undiluted, use no more than 1% on the skin and patch test first. Avoid the face, sensitive skin and broken skin. Diffusion is the gentler choice.
- Avoid during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Not suitable for people with high blood pressure. Speak to a healthcare professional before use if you have any other medical condition or take regular medication.
- Do not use on or near the face of babies or young children, and keep out of their reach. Avoid diffusing in small, closed rooms where children sleep.
- Thyme oil can be harmful to pets, particularly cats. Keep animals out of the room when diffusing, ventilate afterwards and never apply it to them.
- For external and aromatic use only. Do not swallow.
- Essential oils are not medicines and are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any condition.

Frequently asked questions
Can I put thyme essential oil on my skin?
Only with care. Keep it to 1% or less (about 3 drops per 15ml of carrier oil), never apply it neat, patch test first, and avoid the face and sensitive skin. Diffusion is the gentler option.
What is the linalool chemotype of thyme?
Thyme comes in chemically different forms called chemotypes. The linalool type is sweeter and generally gentler on the skin than thymol or carvacrol types, which are far stronger. It still needs careful dilution.
What does thyme blend well with?
It blends well with Rosemary, Lavender, Bergamot, Eucalyptus and Lemon.
