Petitgrain Essential Oil (Citrus aurantium)

The oil of composure.

Our petitgrain essential oil is steam-distilled from the leaves and young twigs of the bitter orange tree, the same tree that gives us neroli from its blossom. The aroma is crisp and green with a soft floral sweetness and a dry woody finish, so it never feels sugary. It is loved for evening diffusing and is the backbone of the classic eau de cologne accord.

Each bottle is made of amber glass to help protect the oil from light, and comes with a black-collared glass pipette dropper for controlled, drop-by-drop use. Choose the 10ml size to try it or the 30ml size for regular use.

How to use

• Diffuser: add 3 to 5 drops to an ultrasonic diffuser in a well-ventilated room, in short sessions.
• Inhalation: put 1 drop on a tissue and breathe in slowly from a comfortable distance. Keep it off your skin and away from young children.
• On the skin: always dilute. Mix 2 drops into 10ml of a carrier oil such as jojoba or grapeseed (about 1%), or 3 drops into 15ml. Never exceed 1%. Patch test first.

Important safety information

• May cause an allergic skin reaction. Never apply undiluted, keep skin use to 1% or less and avoid the eye area and broken skin.
• Petitgrain is distilled from leaves and twigs and is not generally regarded as phototoxic, unlike cold-pressed citrus peel oils. If you blend it with expressed citrus oils, follow the sun safety advice for those oils.
• For external and aromatic use only. Do not swallow.
• Keep out of reach of children, and do not use on or near the face of babies or young children.
• Take care around pets, especially cats, which are sensitive to essential oils: ventilate the room, let animals leave freely and never apply the oil to them.

Can I put petitgrain essential oil on my skin?
