Rose Absolute (Rosa damascena)

The rich, honeyed heart of the rose.

Our rose absolute is solvent-extracted from rose petals rather than steam-distilled, a process that captures heavier aromatic molecules and gives a deeper, sweeter and richer scent, closer to the living flower. Its colour ranges from deep amber to red-orange. In natural perfumery it is a classic floral heart note, and a single drop goes a long way.

Each bottle is made of matte black glass to help protect the oil from light, and comes with a gold-rimmed glass pipette for controlled, drop-by-drop use. As an absolute, it is thick and slow-moving, especially when cool, so warm the closed bottle briefly in your palms. Choose the 10ml size to try it or the 30ml size for regular use.

How to use

• Inhalation: put 1 drop on a tissue, or on the back of your hand warmed gently, and breathe slowly.
• Perfumery: add 1 drop to a perfume or carrier-oil blend as the floral heart, then build top and base notes around it.
• On the skin: always dilute. The maximum is 0.5%, 1 drop per 10ml (about 1.5 drops per 15ml) of a carrier oil such as jojoba or rosehip. Patch test first.
• Not for diffusers: absolutes are thick and waxy and can clog ultrasonic diffusers.

• Use no more than 0.5% on the skin (1 drop per 10ml of carrier oil). Rose absolute is highly concentrated and may cause an allergic skin reaction, so patch test first, never apply it neat and avoid contact with eyes and broken skin.
• For external and aromatic use only. Do not swallow.
• Not for ultrasonic diffusers. Use it on a tissue or in a diluted carrier-oil blend instead.
• Keep out of reach of children, and do not use it on the skin of babies or young children. Essential oils can be harmful to pets, so let animals leave freely when you use it indoors and never apply it to them.

Is rose absolute safe to use on the skin?
Only when well diluted. Keep it to 0.5% or less (1 drop per 10ml of carrier oil), patch test first, and avoid the eyes and broken skin. Never apply it neat, and stop if irritation occurs.

What is the difference between rose absolute and rose otto?
Rose otto is steam-distilled, while rose absolute is solvent-extracted. The absolute is thicker, deeper and sweeter, and very concentrated, so it is used in tiny amounts.

What does rose absolute blend with?
Its rich floral scent pairs well with Geranium, Sandalwood, Bergamot and Jasmine.

Absoluto de rosa (Rosa damascena), extraído con disolventes de los pétalos (no es un aceite destilado al vapor). Aroma rico, profundo, meloso y suavemente floral. Disponible en frascos de vidrio negro mate de 10 ml y 30 ml con pipeta de vidrio de borde dorado.
