Ho Wood Essential Oil (Cinnamomum camphora)

A soft, sweet wood oil with delicate floral notes.

Our ho wood essential oil is steam-distilled from the bark and twigs of Cinnamomum camphora. It is a linalool-rich type with a soft, sweet and woody aroma and delicate floral notes, often compared to rosewood. It is a gentle, clean-smelling middle note for evening diffuser blends and natural perfumery.

Each bottle is made of glass to help protect the oil from light, and comes with a glass pipette dropper for controlled, drop-by-drop use. Choose the 10ml size to try it or the 30ml size for regular use.

How to use

• Diffuser: add 3 to 4 drops to an ultrasonic diffuser in a well-ventilated room, in sessions of 30 to 60 minutes.
• Inhalation: put 1 drop on a tissue or cotton ball and breathe in gently. Keep it away from your skin.
• On the skin: always dilute. Mix up to 1% (about 3 drops per 15ml, or 2 drops per 10ml) into a gentle carrier oil such as sweet almond. Patch test first.

Important safety information

• Use no more than 1% on the skin (about 3 drops per 15ml of carrier oil). Linalool-rich oils can become sensitising when old or oxidised, so patch test first, keep the bottle tightly closed away from heat and light, never apply undiluted and avoid contact with eyes.
• For external and aromatic use only. Do not swallow.
• Published guidance for ho wood is limited. Speak to a healthcare professional before use if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, have epilepsy or any other medical condition, or take medication.
• Keep out of reach of children, and do not use on or near the face of babies or young children. Seek advice on safe dilutions before using it on a child.
• Essential oils, including linalool-rich oils, can be harmful to pets, especially cats. Ventilate the room, let animals leave freely when diffusing and never apply the oil to them.

Is ho wood essential oil safe to use on the skin?
Only when diluted and fresh. Keep it to 1% or less (about 3 drops per 15ml of carrier oil), patch test first, avoid the eyes and broken skin, and stop if irritation occurs.

Is ho wood the same as camphor oil?
No. Both come from the camphor tree (Cinnamomum camphora), but ho wood is the sweet, linalool-rich type. True camphor oil is sharp and has very different safety rules, so always check the type.

What does ho wood blend with?
Its sweet wood scent pairs well with Lavender, Cedarwood, Bergamot and Geranium.
