Grapefruit Essential Oil (Citrus paradisi)

A sparkling burst of citrus sunshine.

Our grapefruit essential oil is cold-pressed from the fresh rind of Citrus paradisi. It has a bright, tangy, sweet-tart aroma that feels clean and sparkling, and is loved for diffusing in the morning, for fresh room blends and as a zesty top note in natural perfumery.

Each bottle is made of glass to help protect the oil from light, and comes with a glass pipette dropper for controlled, drop-by-drop use. Choose the 10ml size to try it or the 30ml size for regular use.

How to use

• Diffuser: add 4 to 6 drops to an ultrasonic diffuser in a well-ventilated room, in sessions of 30 to 60 minutes.
• Inhalation: put 1 drop on a tissue and breathe in gently. Keep the tissue away from your skin.
• On the skin: always dilute. A good starting point is 2 drops in 10ml of a light carrier oil such as grapeseed (about 1%). Never exceed 2% (about 6 drops per 15ml). Patch test first and avoid sun and UV afterwards.

Important safety information

• Phototoxic. Do not expose skin treated with grapefruit to sunlight, sunbeds or UV for at least 12 hours.
• May cause an allergic skin reaction. Never apply undiluted, use no more than 2% on the skin and patch test first. Avoid the face, broken skin and contact with eyes. Keep the bottle tightly closed and store it cool and away from light.
• For external and aromatic use only. Do not swallow.
• Keep out of reach of children. Use only gentle diffusion around young children and do not apply it on or near their face.
• Citrus oils can be harmful to pets, especially cats, so ventilate the room, let animals leave when diffusing and never apply the oil to them.
• If you are pregnant, breastfeeding or have a medical condition, speak to a healthcare professional before use.
• Essential oils are not medicines and are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any condition.

Frequently asked questions

Can I put grapefruit essential oil on my skin?
Only when diluted, to no more than 2% (about 6 drops per 15ml of carrier oil), and 1% is a gentler starting point. Patch test first and keep the skin out of sunlight and UV for at least 12 hours.

Is grapefruit essential oil phototoxic?
Yes, cold-pressed grapefruit oil can make skin more sensitive to sunlight. That is why we advise avoiding sun and sunbeds for at least 12 hours on any skin it has touched.

What does grapefruit blend well with?
Its bright citrus pairs well with Peppermint, Rosemary, Lavender, Bergamot and Geranium.
