A bittersweet, herbaceous middle note with a soft musky warmth.

Our clary sage essential oil is steam-distilled from the flowering tops and leaves of Salvia sclarea. It has a bittersweet, herbaceous and slightly musky aroma with soft balsamic undertones and a tea-like warmth. Perfumers love it as a versatile middle note that rounds out and anchors a blend.

Each bottle is made of amber glass to help protect the oil from light, and comes with a glass pipette dropper for controlled, drop-by-drop use. Choose the 10ml size to try it or the 30ml size for regular use.

How to use

• Diffuser: add 3 to 4 drops to an ultrasonic diffuser in a well-ventilated room, in sessions of 30 to 60 minutes.
• Inhalation: put 1 drop on a tissue and breathe in gently. Keep the tissue away from your skin.
• On the skin: always dilute. Mix 3 drops into 15ml of a carrier oil such as jojoba or sweet almond (1%). Never exceed 1%. Patch test first.

• Avoid during pregnancy. Speak to a healthcare professional before use while breastfeeding, and avoid clary sage if you have an oestrogen-sensitive condition unless your doctor advises otherwise.
• May cause an allergic skin reaction. Never apply undiluted and keep skin use to 1% or less. Avoid contact with eyes.
• Clary sage can feel strongly relaxing or leave some people drowsy. Avoid using it with alcohol, and do not use it before driving or operating machinery.
• For external and aromatic use only. Do not swallow.
• Do not use on or near the face of babies or young children. Take care around pets, particularly cats: ventilate the room, let animals leave freely and never apply it to them.
• Keep out of reach of children.
