Our palo santo essential oil is steam-distilled from naturally fallen heartwood of Bursera graveolens, collected after the timber has rested on the forest floor for several years. Known as “holy wood”, it has a sweet, smoky, resinous aroma lifted by notes of citrus, pine and cool mint. It is loved for meditation and evening rituals, and in natural perfumery it is a warm base note and fixative.

Each bottle is made of matte black glass to help protect the oil from light, and comes with a glass pipette dropper for controlled, drop-by-drop use. Choose the 10ml size to try it or the 30ml size for regular use.

How to use

• Diffuser: add 3 to 5 drops to an ultrasonic diffuser in a well-ventilated room, in short sessions.
• Inhalation: put 1 drop on a tissue, or rub 1 drop between your palms and cup them near your nose. Wash your hands afterwards.
• On the skin: always dilute. Mix 2 drops into 10ml of a carrier oil such as jojoba or sweet almond (about 1%). Never exceed 1% (about 3 drops per 15ml). Patch test first and avoid the face.

Important safety information

• May cause an allergic skin reaction, especially if the oil is old or oxidised. Never apply undiluted, keep skin use to 1% or less and avoid broken or sensitive skin and the eyes.
• Palo santo is high in limonene, which oxidises on contact with air. Keep the bottle tightly closed, store it away from heat and direct light, and use it within about 12 months of opening.
• For external and aromatic use only. Do not swallow.
• Keep out of reach of children, and do not use on or near the face of babies or young children.
• Limonene-rich oils can be harmful to pets, especially cats. Ventilate the room, let animals leave freely when diffusing and never apply the oil to them.

Can I put palo santo essential oil on my skin?
Only when diluted. Keep it to 1% or less (about 3 drops per 15ml of carrier oil), patch test first, and avoid the face and broken skin. Old or oxidised oil is more likely to irritate.

Is palo santo oil the same as palo santo sticks?
No. The oil is steam-distilled from heartwood and used in a diffuser or diluted. It is not burned, and it smells sweeter, with citrus and mint notes.

What does palo santo blend well with?
It pairs well with Frankincense, Sandalwood, Cedarwood and Lavender.
