Lemon verbena essential oil has a rich, sweet lemon fragrance with a soft herbal depth that many people find more rounded than lemon itself. It is a prized, expressive oil, so a little goes a long way.

Ways to enjoy it

• A sweet lemon scent for calm, relaxed evenings.

How to use

• Diffuser: add 2 to 3 drops to an ultrasonic diffuser in a well-ventilated room, in sessions of 30 to 60 minutes.
• Inhalation: put 1 drop on a tissue and breathe in slowly. Keep the tissue away from your skin and eyes.
• On the skin: always dilute. Mix 1 drop into 10ml of a carrier oil such as sweet almond or jojoba (about 0.5%). Never exceed 0.5%. Patch test first.

• May cause an allergic skin reaction. Never apply undiluted, keep skin use to 0.5% or less and patch test first. Avoid the eyes and broken or sensitive skin.
• Lemon verbena contains citral and is a known skin sensitiser. Keep skin use to 0.5% or less, patch test first and stop if any irritation occurs.
• Avoid sun and UV exposure on skin where it has been applied.
• For external and aromatic use only. Do not swallow.
• Keep out of reach of children, and do not use on or near the face of babies or young children.
• Take care around pets, especially cats.
• Avoid during pregnancy and breastfeeding, and speak to a healthcare professional if you have a medical condition.
