Description
Vanilla CO2 Extract
Vanilla Planifolia: The Oil of Comfort
Sourced from the cured pods of Madagascan orchids, our Vanilla is produced by supercritical CO2 extraction, a modern, solvent-free method that uses pressurised carbon dioxide rather than heat or chemicals. The result is a rich, dark, viscous extract with an aroma far truer to the pod than any distilled or synthetic alternative: deep, sweet, creamy and faintly smoky.
Vanilla pods contain no volatile oil, so a true vanilla essential oil does not exist. Anything sold under that name is either an extract like this one or a synthetic fragrance oil, and we would rather tell you which you are buying.
Each pod is hand-pollinated and cured over several months before extraction, which is why vanilla remains one of the world’s most expensive agricultural products after saffron.
To preserve this precious extract, it is housed in a protective amber glass bottle, shielding it from UV degradation. Each bottle is fitted with a black-collared precision glass pipette, ensuring effortless application for your daily wellness rituals.
In natural perfumery, Vanilla is the definitive gourmand base note and a superb fixative, giving oriental, amber and gourmand accords their sweetness, body and lasting warmth on the skin.
Suitable for:
- Fine natural perfumery as a sweet, enveloping base note.
- Emotional comfort during times of anxiety, loneliness or homesickness.
- Rounding off blends that feel sharp, thin or overly medicinal.
- Evening and bedtime rituals where warmth matters more than freshness.
- Dry skin blends, where its softness is as welcome as its scent.
How to Use:
- Topical: Dilute 1–2 drops in 10ml of carrier oil (like Jojoba or Sweet Almond) for a comforting body oil or a simple personal scent at the pulse points.
- Perfumery: Add 1–2 drops as the base of a blend, then build your heart and top notes above it.
- Please note: This extract is thick and slow to pour, particularly in cool weather. Warm the bottle briefly in the palms before use. As a CO2 extract it is not recommended for ultrasonic diffusers, as the heavier fractions can clog the mechanism. To scent a room, blend it into a carrier oil or an unscented base instead.
